Pictures found / Aleksey Petrosian

Aleksey Petrosian is a quite famous Russian photograper of our times. Curiously enough, he does not seem to have a homepage or whatsoever; his series "Life in Russia" was published (?) by the English Russia site in 2009. But anyway. Street photography, bw and colour.

For people born in or after the 1990s, it may be difficult to grasp what Eastern Block or everyday socialism meant. It had a particular taste, as we see it now. It is much like a world of Bela Tarr's Satan's Tango, just in colour. Or like the backdrop of Dostoyevsky's novels, just made continuous and perpetual. The songs of Tamas Cseh. A whitewashed room lit by a 25 watt bulb in the night, plaster falling. And so on.
